History and Overview
ASA-IM''s office for the Asia Subcontinent
opened in New Delhi, India in September 1996. The
Asia Subcontinent office conducts seminars and workshops throughout South Asia to promote soybean utilization in the
food and feed sectors.
In the food sector and primarily in India,
ASA-IM promotes the manufacturing of soy foods by soy processors and food
manufacturers. ASA-IM occasionally provides initial marketing support for
new soy-based food products. Products currently on the market include
wheat-soy flour, soymilk, tofu (soya paneer), health supplements of
pharmaceutical industries, soy nuts (snacks), soy papad (flat chip),
bakery products, soy bari (nuggets and granules), and soybean oil. ASA-IM
also helps existing soy processors through provision of a quality seal
that endorses high quality tested products.
In the feed sector, ASA-IM helps to
promote utilization of soybean meal, expeller processed soybean oil meal
and full fat soybeans in poultry, dairy and aquaculture feeds as a source
of protein and energy. ASA-IM regularly publishes technical bulletins on
various subjects and participates in various national and international
poultry, dairy, and general feed and related exhibitions. Soya feed
products, which ASA-IM promotes, include soybean meal, full fat soybeans,
soybean oil meal, and soybean as part of concentrate feed supplements.
