History and Overview
      The office in Seoul, Korea was opened in 1979. Country Director, Say Young Jo, has served the ASA-IM office since 1980. ASA-IM staff and consultants in Korea work with local soybean processors, feed mills, livestock producers, soybean oil refiners and soy-based food manufacturers to expand the use of soybeans and soy products.
Korea is a maturing market with the potential for growth of U.S. soybean exports slowing.

Industry Statistics
  • Korea ranks as the 7th largest market for both U.S. soybeans and soybean meal
  • Over 780,100,000 metric tons, or 2.8 million bushels, of U.S. soybeans imported in 2005
  • Over 253,100,000 metric tons of soybean meal were imported to Korea from the U.S. That is equivalent to 1.1 million bushels of soybeans.
