History and Overview
ASA-IM's Eurasia, Middle East and Africa office opened in 1998 and is located in Istanbul, Turkey. The office serves 37 countries including the primary U.S. soy markets of Turkey, Romania, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
ASA-IM's focus in this region is to build the soy market through programs that focus on purchasing, crushing, soy oil refining, fullfat soybean meal, feed formulation, poultry (nutrition, disease, and marketing), dairy, aquaculture, soy flour, and soy food.
ASA-IM educates primary and end-user customers about the real economic benefits and ultimate profitability of using quality U.S. soybean-origin products.

Industry Statistics
- The Middle East region is a major growth market, ranked in terms of U.S. soybean exports, Turkey (#7), Egypt (#8), Israel (#14), Syria (#20), and United Arab Emirates (#25).
- U.S. exports to the region as whole during marketing year 2006 were a record 1,662,300 metric ton, or 61 million bushels, of soybeans.
- Over the past five years, the region has averaged a 53.8% market share for U.S. soybeans..
- The soy market is in transition as it shifts from a soybean meal market to a soybean market.
- Imports of U.S. soybeans are expected to gain growth in coming years with the opening of several new large crushing plants in Egypt, Dubai, Syria, Lebanon, and Kazakhstan.
- Poultry production, milk production, and fish production is on the rise in the Middle East region, which will lead to increased demand for soybean meal.
