History and Overview
ASA-IM opened an office in Taipei, Taiwan in 1970. Taiwan is a small island located to the south eastern coast of China. Because of limited arable land, Taiwan relies entirely on imports to satisfy its annual demands for 90 million bushels of soybeans.

Currently, Taiwan is the 4th largest market for U.S. soybean exports. With its imports of 2.4 million metric tons (88 million bushels) in 2005, the U.S. had over 70 percent market share. In this market, the largest consumer is the crushing industry that processes 1.8 million for oil and meal, 200,000 – 350,000 metric tons are for full fat soy production and 250,000 – 400,000 metric tons are for foods.
