China Food & Hospitality Industry Trade Show Features Soy Protein in Bakery Products

Soy protein use in bakery products are becoming popular in China as indicated by the interest shown during the Food & Hospitality Industry Trade Show held in Beijing. Over 5,000 people attended the show where ASA-IM China was represented in the USA Food Pavilion. Over 40 large bakery companies visited the booth where they were able to sample bakery products and learn about the functional qualities of soy flour to make the pastry shell more uniform in color and its ability to hold the wheat pastry together to prevent cracking and splitting.

Chinas' Moon Cakes are the best selling item and largest single revenue source for most Chinese bakeries. Use of soy protein in this popular item attracted a great deal of visitor attention.
The activities of USSEC are made possible by producer checkoff dollars invested by the United Soybean Board and various State Soybean Councils, support from cooperating industry, and through the American Soybean Association's investment of cost-share funding provided by USDA's Foreign Agriculture Service.
