WISHH and USSEC Collaborate to Build Demand for U.S. Soy Proteins

ASA-IM Logo

Bringing people together to find solutions to nutritional problems in developing countries was the objective of the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) Midwest Workshop held at the University of Illinois. USSEC Consultants Nayeli Vilanova from Latin America and Dr. Shahnawaz Janjua from Pakistan joined the more than 70 attendees who came from around the globe to learn more about the many food uses of soy and to interact with other industry representatives.

Dr. Janjua learned techniques that he can share with bakers in Pakistan to promote the commercial use of soy flour in local bakery products. Ms. Vilanova was able to network with companies from Guatamala who are either using or plan to use soy in their commerical product lines. Working as a partnership, WISHH and USSEC are creating commercial demand for U.S. soy protein in Latin America, Asia and Africa.

The activities of USSEC are made possible by producer checkoff dollars invested by the United Soybean Board and various State Soybean Councils, support from cooperating industry, and through the American Soybean Association's investment of cost-share funding provided by USDA's Foreign Agriculture Service.
